Car makers’ model ranges have grown massively in recent years and that, in a lot of cases, has left traditional model designations floundering to inform potential buyers. Mercedes has made some moves of late to address the lack of clarity in model designations (the Mercedes CL, for example, has become the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe), and new models have started to arrive with more descriptive names. Models like the CLA (a coupe from the A-Class range) and GLA (an SUV/Crossover from the A-Class range) and that looks set to be extended when the next Mercedes ML and ML Coupe arrive in 2015.
The 2014 Jeep Cherokee – a replacement for the Jeep Liberty – has been revealed ahead of a debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show in April. So when Jalopnik published some less than good looking photos of the new Jeep Cherokee yesterday, the PR machine at Jeep went in to overdrive to bring forward the release of official photos of the new Cherokee, to hopefully stem the less than flattering comments on the new Cherokee’s looks. Ferrari, in collaboration with Pininfarina, has laid down a global challenge for students of car design. The project, called 'Ferrari: new concepts for the myth', will see students from four of the world's best automotive design schools compete to create new concepts for future Ferraris. The four schools are: Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Tokyo Communication Arts, Coventry University School of Art and Design, and the European Institute of Design in Turin.
